Abstracts

This study deals with the diversity of biodemographic structures noticed within a same province, called "Le Dauphiné". With different indicators which come from a combined research in historical demography and in biological anthropology, it try to check if some similarities appears on a geographical and temporal "continuum" presenting several ecosystems. Several rural communities of the plain and the mountain of "Dauphiné", also two towns, "Pont-de-Beauvoisin" and "Briançon" are compared. These different parishes which are far away one from the others will be studied with various historical and cultural criteria. In spite of the unchanged situation that forms the political and historical context of "Le Dauphiné" in the XVII and XVIIIth centuries, the indicators calculated reveal considerable gaps. As a consequense, we can ask ourselves if this province possess a possible unity of population. Indeed, the rural world the "Dauphiné" is opposed to the urban world and seems to be quite far away the alpine mountain. We distinguish within the alpine communities important gaps. So, also in this case, it appears difficult to say if it's one and similar population. Finally, from its biodemographic structure, this southeast province seems to be more a disparate aggregate of populations, which emphasize the weakness of the provincial identity. Elsewhere, during its former creation in the Middle Ages, this configuration was already up to date.
